2-Part “Parenting” Series:
Raising a son or daughter in today’s world means helping them discover more than who they are but TO WHOM THEY BELONG.
This inspiring series equips parents to teach their sons and daughters how to embrace the unique person God created them to be while rooting their identity firmly in Christ and the power of His Word. Each book offers encouragement, biblical wisdom, and practical guidance for navigating the questions, choices, relationships, and challenges which shape one's life.
With a message that balances affirmation with truth spoken in love, this series reminds every son or daughter that their journey of faith has meaning and purpose—and that walking with God provides a firm foundation of godly wisdom to build one's life upon.
BOOK RECAP:
The first half of this book is called, “The Mirror,” because personal identity is under siege in our culture. Everywhere we turn, young women are bombarded with relative truth which tempts them to focus their attention on what they lack. Girls grow up questioning who they are instead of knowing they are fearfully and wonderfully made. My heart breaks for girls who attempt to make themselves look older and more attractive to gain acknowledgment, affirmation, and attention. S*x sells in our culture today, and many young women have bought the lie that they must barter their purity to feel loved and accepted.
However, when a girl looks in the mirror, she should not be focused on what is wrong with herself but know she is perfect just the way God made her. She should not second-guess who she is but have a peaceful understanding that her value and worth are priceless to her heavenly Father. Though her earthly father or mother may fail to affirm who she is in Christ, the Lord has much to say about her identity and why she is special. Therefore, “The Mirror” is about reflecting not what the world sees but what God sees in His precious daughter.
The second half of this book is called, “The Compass,” because it is meant to point a daughter towards godly wisdom on a variety of topics. Focus shifts away from affirming a daughter’s personal identity in Christ to establishing firm boundaries and disciplines to direct her path. The goal is to guide her to God’s Word as she discerns the wisest path to take in life. Each day, there are choices she must make and which direction she turns will set the course of her life and inevitably what happens next. She can choose to sin and suffer the consequences of her actions or follow Jesus’s command and receive the peace of God which surpasses all understanding (Phil. 4:7).
In totality, “The Mirror and The Compass” are designed to teach daughters that God is in control and His Word is sufficient to meet their deepest needs. Regardless of the failures, imperfections, and (in some cases) absence of earthly fathers and mothers, the Lord is ever-present. No matter how lonely or isolated a girl may feel, her heavenly Father is by her side and holding her close. His assurance is priceless, enabling her to endure the temptations of this world with confidence knowing she is unconditionally loved and accepted. It also empowers her to stand boldly for Jesus because she knows that He is her strength and shield in the face of trials and adversity.
